The Year of Identity!

At Tony Wood Hairdressing, we’re proud of how we push and develop our team to help them grow and gain access to new skills. This gives our clients access to the most up to date hair trends and techniques, enabling us to deliver not just incredible hair, but a unique experience every time you visit the salon!

In 2023, this development will continue, increasing the variety of hair types and personal requirements we are able to work on. Our salon doors are wide open to all backgrounds, races and religions so it’s crucial that we are able to work to all needs and hair textures.

This is the year of Identity at Tony Wood Hairdressing! In 2022 we were the first salon in Portsmouth to offer Gender Neutral services. We actively encourage people to be themselves, so we take great pride in the safe space we have created. Many clients have welcomed the option to book in for an appointment without having to use gender specific services.

As a salon we strive to be constantly learning and evolving. In recent times we have converted The Colour Factory into a flexible area that allows us to accommodate any personal specific needs. We understand that the salon can be busy - believe us we do! But that also means we understand that the noise, chaos and amount of people is not for all. Clients are able to book appointments with us using this space which allows us to respect any religious beliefs, special needs or personal preferences as this section can be separated where required.

Having this space means we are able to provide a hijab friendly service within the salon which is incredibly important to us as we understand that for many, wearing a hijab is a personal expression of faith and identity and as such it is essential for us to respect this by providing an accommodating, inclusive space for clients to feel comfortable and safe while protecting their modesty and integrity.

As part of our Year of Identity, we plan to make further improvements to the space, expanding it into somewhat of a compartmentalized mini-salon within our building and adding extra luxury to the experience. By doing this, it will allow us to reflect an understanding and respect for all personal, cultural and religious preferences of respectively diverse communities and demonstrates the inclusivity and acceptance within our building.

We are excited to share the upgrades to this new space with everyone soon! While the journey is well underway, this is just the beginning of what The Year of Identity will bring at Tony Wood Hairdressing and we are excited to share with you what we will be delivering in the coming weeks.
