Two years after launching our Colour Factory space, we’ve earned a reputation for being the best colour-focused space in the south of England. Now, we’re investing 30 years of creating beautiful hair into refocusing on precision haircutting.

Under the guidance of Tony Wood and Liam Fry, Tony Wood Hair has become recognised locally and nationally for all aspects of hairdressing, from cuts and colouring to education and charity. In 2017, the salon won an international award for colour at Goldwell’s Global Color Zoom.

“With hair colour mastered — but still very much an aspect of the Tony Wood Hair experience which we continue to lead the industry in — we decided to make 2018 the ‘Year of the Cut’,” Tony explained.

WHAT ABOUT THE CUT?

While I love hair colour, haircutting is my real passion,” Tony continued. “After spending 35 years cutting hair and almost 20 sharing my haircutting knowledge via education, I chose to make 2018 the year when my whole team joins me in taking haircutting in the south to another level.

“I’ve been studying haircutting for a long time now, and have been lucky to share that journey with some of the world’s best haircutting specialists.

“I’ve educated haircutting all over the world for some of the biggest haircare companies, on stage and in salons.

“In recent years I’ve been educating teachers in colleges all around the UK. The ‘Magic Scissors’ project recently let me share share my passion for haircutting with some of the most iconic names in hairdressing today.

“I’ve always trained my own team and made sure I only work with the best in my salon, but this year, I’ve decided I want to focus on their haircutting skills, pushing them as far as I can with their cutting knowledge. We want to be known as the best haircutting team in the region.”

SO WHAT’S HAPPENING?

“As 2018 begins, we start a year of assessment, training, and progression across the whole Tony Wood team, while partnering with a prestigious scissor company and honing a constant focus on haircutting.

“You’ll get to see the effects in the salon, and by keeping an eye on our social media streams to see what we’re achieving.

“There are a lot of really good hairdressers now. The standard of hairdressing, colouring, and cutting today is higher than ever, and UK hairdressers are revered all over the world. But precision haircutting's a whole different ballgame. It’s something to constantly develop.

“To this day, I can still sit over a cuppa with fellow cutting specialists discussing the complexities of a ‘line’.”

Jay Mahmood pays a visit

Goldwell Global Cutting Ambassador and hair cutting education extraordinaire Jay Mahmood paid Tony Wood Hair a visit in January 2018 to inspire our team and throw some shapes. ‘Precision’ and ‘shape’ were two key words we heard a lot during Jay’s visits, and they’re two words which are going to define 2018 at Tony Wood Hair.
